Early Childhood Programs

The River Grove Recreation Department is happy to announce its new Early Childhood Programs to be offered in the fall of 2014. Classes will be led by longtime resident and Early Childhood Educator, Marge Downs.

3 - 5 year old Preschool (children must be toilet trained) September 2 - December 18, 2014 Tuesday/Thursday 9:00 am - 11:00 am $175.00 This program is an introduction to school for your child. The play based curriculum is designed to enhance your child's social, physical, and cognitive development. Weekly themes offering hands-on activities will provide your child the opportunity to explore and create while learning basic concepts in math, science, art, reading and language. Music, Movement, Group Activities, Story Time, and a Snack are also included.

Mom and Tot Get Together (newborn - 18 months of age) September 10 – December 17, 2014 Wednesdays 10:00am - 11:00 am $75.00

Come join our informal social time for both parent and child/children. A play center with blocks, puzzles, books and other toys will be available for children to enjoy while moms get to know one another. This class offers an opportunity to share conversation and information on child development and parenting. Music, Movement and Art experiences will also be provided.

Marge Downs has lived in River Grove for over 30 years with her husband, Gary and two sons, Kyle, and Ryan. Marge’s love for children has given her over 35 years experience working with them. She has taught in day care centers (infants to 5 years old), provided home day care for children 3-5, and ran a Parent/Tot Program for Veteran’s Park District. Her last job was teaching Early Childhood Education to high school students and mentoring them in an on-site preschool in a Career and Technical Center in DuPage. Marge is thrilled to have this opportunity to provide a fun and playful experience for the families in the River Grove Community.

Advance registration and payment are required for these classes. If you have any questions, please contact Michele Obaya at 708.453.8000

Dance is a fun way to get your body moving and get healthy.
Come on out and "shake a tail feather" - no experience necessary.

Launched in 2010 by "So You Think You Can Dance" co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president
Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July. This
grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good
health and combat obesity. NDD achieved national recognition when Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton
CD-DC), a long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, announced at a press conference on July 31, 2010, in
Washington, D.C., that she was introducing a congressional resolution declaring the last Saturday in July to be
the country's official National Dance Day.
